So, if you follow game industry news (and if you do, you've probably got problems of your own), you probably know already that AEG dropped about 75% of their staff on Tuesday, including me. We all saw this coming, but not this soon, nor this drastic. It didn't hurt me as badly as others, since I was already planning on leaving to go to law school next fall. It accelerates my plans, certainly, and leaves me with nothing to do for the next year, but is more an inconvenience than a serious setback, unlike for some others.
Barring a major opportunity in LA, I'm probably going to be moving back home just after Thanksgiving, both to reduce expense & spend some more time with my family. To my great surprise, I find I'm going to miss Los Angeles & environs. Even with the traffic, cost of living, and ridiculously high bullshit level that come part & parcel with Southern California, there's a lot here that I've grown to love, and moving back to a small town (and yes, by comparison, Cleveland is small) is going to be a definite change. On the other hand, I miss my family terribly, am looking forward to getting back on my horse, and will enjoy being able to see stars in the night sky again.
Also, today I got my LSAT scores. 167 (out of 180) is a very respectable score (96th percentile), and will hopefully give me a decent range of options for law school. I'm planning on applying to schools both at home and here (as well as a few others), and I may very well end up back out here a year from now. I'm a lot more hopeful now than I was on Tuesday, and I think I may actually be able to enjoy the month of relative slackerdom I have coming up, rather than the anxiety I've been facing most of this week.
